Crowned Champions of the OER Corporate Challenge
The two-day
long OER Corporate Challenge ended on a high note as
Occidental of Oman (Oxy) emerged as victor of the body and
mind games that comprised the event. 26 corporate were
pitted against each other in games that were specially
formulated to test their endurance and team-spirit. Teams
participated in challenges like Five-a-side Soccer, Beach
Volleyball, Relay Race, Tug-of-war, Camp Up, Towering
Objectives, Memory Check and Quiz. The spirit of sportsman
was evident as teams fought valiantly to win the much
sought after Corporate Challenge trophy.
A festive atmosphere permeated the Oman Dive Center as
contestants encouraged each other – especially on the last
day of the contest. Each team put in their best efforts.
In the end, it was Oxy Oman who emerged as overall winners
with 315 points, followed by Mohsin Haider Darwish in
second place with 295 points and Falcon Oil Fields in
third place with 272.5 points. National bank of Oman came
fourth with 265 points followed by Shell Oman in fifth
place with 255 place. The grand Champions Trophy was
awarded to the proud team by Dr. Amer Rawas, Managing
Director, Oman Mobile and H.H. Sayyid Tariq bin Shabib,
Editor-in-Chief, Oman Economic Review.
The teams participating in the OER Corporate Challenge
used every skill possible to try and reach the pinnancle
of success. The spirit of competition was strong and teams
displayed high levels of energy, innovativeness and team-buliding
– each trying to outdo the other. The never-say-die
attitude was clearly demonstrated as teams fought tooth
and nail to keep their corporate flag flying high.
Apart from the champions Trophy, prizes were also given
away to winners of individual challenges. Mohsin Haider
Darwish won the prize for the Memory Check, Quiz. The
Zubair Automotive Group won the award for Towering
Objectives. Oxy Oman emerges as winner of the interesting
Camp Up challenge and volleyball. The Shell Marketing team
carried away the prize for Tug-of-war, Towell Auto Group
won the award for soccer while the relay events were won
by Port of Salalah.
According to Mr. Sandeep Sehgal, General Manager, United
Media Services, “The OER Corporate Challenge has been a
wonderful platform for the corporate houses in Oman to
come together and compete on a different kind of turf. It
provided an opportunity for teams to try their skills at
games of body and mind. All in all it has been an
experience to remember. The tremendous success of this
event can be attributed to the unstinting support received
from key corporate houses especially Oman Mobile and Jeep.
Our vision is to see this event go from strength to
strength with each passing year.”
The prize-giving ceremony was held to the loud cheers of
the audience and was followed by a scintillating evening
of entertainment. As night fell with a full moon
reflecting resplendently on the shimmering water,
participants and senior personnel from participating
companies came together to celebrate the evening
Belly dancers regaled the audience - young and otherwise -
equally. The huge gathering drawn from corporate circles
were drawn into a spirit of bonhomie with foot-tapping
music and Salsa dancing. Women participants of the OER
Corporate Challenge received special prizes from Damas as
did one lucky woman in the audience who won a stunning
diamond pendent through a raffle draw.
The OER Corporate Challenge was inaugurated jointly by H.E
Maqbool Ali Sultan, Minister of Commerce and Industry and
H.E. Eng. Ali Bin Masoud A’Sunaidy, Minister of Sports
Affairs. A number of digitaries from the corporate and
government sector attended this pioneering corporate
event. Oman Mobile and Jeep were Associate Sponsors while
Times of Oman and Al Shabiba were supporting the event as
Media Partners. Hewlett Packard, and IMTAC were Technology
Partners, AXA Insurance, Oman Printers and Stationers were
Category Partners, Capital Stores LLC, Raymond Weil
Watches, Zahara Holidays, Panasonic, Emart, Photocenter,

OER Corporate Challenge 2007 was presented by Applause
